The "Atocha coin" is a replica inspired by a treasure recovered from the shipwreck of the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha, which sank in 1622 off the coast of Florida. Minted in the New World Spanish colonies, these silver and gold coins are now sought after by collectors. The Atocha shipwreck was famously discovered by Mel Fisher in 1985, and its recovered artifacts are now known as part of the "Atocha treasure."
